HEALTH & SAFETY

We aim to provide our employees with a clean, safe working environment. Where required and in keeping with governmental requirements, health and safety committees have been formed to ensure compliance with local regulations.

Our primary objective is to achieve and maintain the highest practicable level of health and safety standards in all areas of Caxton CTP Limited operations.

In our endeavours we ensure:

• Matters affecting health and safety are accorded a high level of priority;
• Adequate precautions are taken to prevent injuries, incidents and damage; and
• The provisions of all relevant legislation as well as our internal Health & Safety Management System are complied with.

To achieve our goals we:

• Train our employees in occupational health and safety issues in order to ensure competence in the workplace.
• Are aware of the potential hazards implicit in our work activities.
• Are aware of our scope of authority in terms of Occupational Health and Safety control.
• Manage occupational health and safety to acceptable standards.
• Enforce health and safety measures with discipline in the workplace.
• Protect the public and other people from health and safety hazards associated with our work.

Health Clinics
We operate several health clinics to provide occupational health care to employees.
Occupational Health Care

Medical surveillance programme: Audiogram, Spiromrty, Vision Screening, Physical examination

1. Pre employment medicals on new employees.
2. Periodic medicals on existing employees.
3. Employee medicals on interdepartmental relocations
4. Exit medicals on employees who are leaving the company
5. Biological monitoring of chemicals on employees who are exposed to hazardous chemicals i.e. Toluene.
6. In-service training of “First Aiders” regarding checking of First Aid boxes and how to cope in emergencies.
7. Weekly walkabout in plants to identify health hazards.
8. Management of COID cases - injuries on duty.
9. Management of Occupational Diseases.
10. Organising External Occupational Health Service provider every two years to conduct a hygiene survey.
11. Regular hygiene inspections of Ablution facilities.

Wellness programme

1. Yearly flu vaccination and vitamin provisions
2. Optometrist free vision screening on all employees when requested.
3. Blood donation service for employees who are interested in donating blood.

Primary Health Care

1. Management of minor ailments.
2. Management of Chronic disease.
3. Management of emergencies and referrals to Hospital.
4. Counselling of employees with health and social problems.
5. Providing Health education as the need arises.
6. Ordering of medication on a monthly basis.

An HIV/AIDS counselling and testing programme is to be implemented in the near future. At present, patients are referred to their Local Clinic for free voluntary, counselling and testing (VCT).
